Thanon Phetkasem ( Thai : ถนน เพชรเกษม , in English also Petchkasem Road or Thailand Route 4 - ทางหลวง แผ่นดิน ) 4 ) is one of the four most important expressways in Thailand , along with Thanon Phahonyothin , Thanon Sukhumvit and Thanon Mittraphap . With a length of 1274 kilometers, it is the longest expressway in Thailand and is part of the Asian Highway AH2 .

The name Phetkasem was given to the road after its completion on December 10, 1950 in honor of Luang Phetkasem Withisawasdi ( ก่ หลวง เพชรเกษม วิถี สวัสดิ์ ), the seventh director of the Department of Highways .

Course of the road

Thanon Phetkasem connects Bangkok with the border with Malaysia in the south of the country, passing through the provinces of Samut Sakhon , Nakhon Pathom , Ratchaburi , Phetchaburi , Prachuap Khiri Khan , Chumphon , Ranong , Phang Nga , Krabi , Trang , Phatthalung and Songkhla . The North-South Expressway (NSE) from Malaysia forms the extension from Amphoe Sadao .

Today the Thanon Phetkasem has partly lost its importance as a long-distance connection, as shorter connections have emerged, especially between Chumphon and Phattalung with Route 41.
