Thanon Mittraphap ( Thai ถนน มิตรภาพ - "Road of Friendship" or National Road No. 2 - Thang Luang Phaen Din Mai Lek 2 ทางหลวง แผ่นดิน หมายเลข 2 , in English "Friendship Highway" or Thailand Route 2 ) is next to Thanon Phahonyothin , the Thanon Sukhumvit and the Thanon Phetkasem one of the four most important expressways in Thailand . It was created by the USA in the 1960s and 70s to improve supplies during the Vietnam War .

Course of the road

The expressway is 559.5 km long and begins in Saraburi , leads via Nakhon Ratchasima , Khon Kaen , Udon Thani and ends today in Nong Khai at the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge on the Mekong . In the 1990s, trunk road No. 2 was expanded to include four lanes. Thanon Mittraphap is part of the Asian Highway AH12 and is the most important road connection to the northeast region ( Isan ) and Laos .
