history

Bangkok Noi was established as an Amphoe of Thonburi Province on October 15, 1915 . The original name was Amphoe Amarin , but on July 11, 1916 it was adapted to the traditional name of the area and renamed Amphoe Bangkok Noi . When Thonburi and Bangkok were merged in 1972, Bangkok Noi became a Khet of Bangkok.

On November 9, 1989, a new Bang Phlat district was created from four sub-districts of Bangkok Noi, leaving Bangkok Noi with only four sub-districts: Sirirat, Ban Chang Lo, Bang Khun Non, and Bang Khun Si. On December 12, 1991, a small part of Bang Phlat was returned to Bangkok Noi, creating the new Arun Amarin subdistrict.

Attractions

  • Siriraj Museum - Summary of several museums on medical history and forensics on the site of the famous Siriraj Hospital , which was founded by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as the most modern hospital in Thailand at the time.
  • The Bangkok Noi Railway Station (also: Thon Buri Railway Station ) is adjacent to the Siriraj Hospital. This is where the trains departed to the west, mainly to Kanchanaburi Province , but also to southern Thailand . The station was built in 1900 by the German architect Karl Döhring in the European style. During the Second World War it was used by the Japanese as a replenishment base and was therefore destroyed. After the war, the station building was rebuilt in the same style. In 2003 the actual train station was moved about 1 km to the west, and the old building has been unused since then. The railway area freed as a result is intended for the expansion of the hospital, but is currently only used as a parking lot.
  • Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan - founded in the Ayutthaya period , very attractive wall paintings of the last 10 Jatakas (Thai: "Tosachat") in the Ubosot executed by the masters Thong Yu and Khong Pae, who were famous artists at the time of King Phra Nang Klao (Rama III .) were.
  • Wat Chinorasaraam Worawihan - from 1836, which shows pictures of Nagas on the shutters , wall paintings depicting the life of Buddha in the Ubosot .
  • Wat Rakhang Kositaram Woramahawihan - one of the most famous temples from the Ayutthaya period on the Chao Phraya. During a renovation in the reign of King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok (Rama I) , a large bell was found that was installed in the bell tower of Wat Phra Kaeo . As a replacement, five smaller bells were installed in the temple, which gave the temple its name ( Rakhang means "bell"). Also worth seeing is the old " Tripitaka pavilion" (Thai: หอ พระ ไตรปิฎก , Hor Trai library).
  • Wat Chinorasaram - small monastery on Khlong Mon from the reign of King Phra Nang Klao (Rama III.) .
