Chom Thong ( Thai : จอมทอง , tɕɔ̄ːm tʰɔ̄ːŋ ) is one of the 50 khet (districts) in Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . Chom Thong is a southern urban district and lies on the west side of the Chao Phraya River.
The district is famous for its savory tangerines , the Bang Mot tangerine. Therefore, the sculpture of a giant mandarin is located at the intersection of Rama II Road and Suk Sawat Road.
geography
The boundaries of Chom Thong are determined by numerous small khlongs , the names of which are hardly known beyond the khet. In the north: Khlong Rang Bua, Khlong Bangwa, Khlong Daamwong, Khlong Wat Bangsue and Khlong Wat Maiyaibui. In the east: Khlong Bang Sakae, Thanon Suksawat and Khlong Bang Phakaeo. In the south: Khlong Yaichamphii, Khlong Lamrang, and Khlong Thaluuk. In the west: Khlong Bua, Khlong Sanam Chai, Khlong Wat Singh and Khlong Tha Nam.
The neighboring districts are clockwise from the north: Phasi Charoen , Thonburi , Rat Burana , Thung Khru , Bang Khun Thian, and Bang Bon .
history
Chom Thong was initially part of the Bang Khun Thian district until the announcement of the establishment of a separate district on November 9, 1989. On October 14, 1997, part of the Bang Pakok subdistrict of Council Burana and parts of the Bukkhalo subdistrict were part of the major administrative reform of Bangkok incorporated into Chom Thong by Thonburi .

- Wat Sai ( วัด ไทร ) and the floating market of the same name
- Wat Ratcha Orasaram ( วัด ราช โอรสา ราม ) - quiet temple at Khlong Sanam Chai (Khlong Daan), built in the Ayutthaya period, renovated by King Rama III. Interesting mix of Thai and Chinese style elements, for example with round doors in the Phra Rabiang , which surrounds the Wihan with a large reclining Buddha .
- Wat Nang Nong Worawihan ( วัด นางนอง วรวิหาร ) - built in the Ayutthaya period on the eastern bank of the Khlong Sanam Chai, also renovated by King Rama III. The main Buddha statue "in royal regalia" of the Ubosot , which is built in Chinese style, is worth seeing .
