Khlong San ( Thai คลองสาน ) is one of the 50 khet (districts) in Bangkok , the capital of Thailand . Khlong San is located in the southern inner city on the west bank of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ) opposite Bangkok's “Chinatown”.
geography
Khlong San is bounded to the north, east and south by Mae Nam Chao Phraya, to the west by Khlong Bang Saikai, Somdet Phrachao Taksin Road and Prachathipok Road.
The neighboring districts are clockwise from the north: Phra Nakhon , Samphanthawong , Bang Rak , Sathon , and Bang Kho Laem , which are all on the opposite side of the river, as well as Thonburi .
history
The name of the Khlong San district changed in the course of history: it was first called Amphoe Bang Lamphu Lang ( บางลำภู ล่าง ), then it was later renamed Amphoe Buppharam ( บุปผาราม ) and did not get its current name until 1916 when it became part of the province ( Changwat ) Thonburi was.
In 1938 it was made a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) , but it was changed back to an Amphoe in 1957 due to the population development. After the provinces of Thonburi and Phra Nakhon became part of Bangkok, Khlong San also became part of the capital.
The population of Khlong San has declined significantly since the 1990s: from 147,407 inhabitants in 1989 it halved to 73,871 in 2016.
