history

Since the birth house of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's mother was in the area between the Chao Praya River and the Anongkharam Temple, it was the king's wish to have a similar building in the character of the birth house. Mr. Daeng Nana and Mr. Lek Nana owned several ramshackle buildings that were what the king imagined. They gave these buildings with an area of 4  rai (about 6400 m²) as a gift to the king. The Chaipattana Foundation was then commissioned to restore the buildings and create a garden-like park. Two buildings that were used as a warehouse at the time of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) have been restored as exhibition buildings. The attempt was made to keep the wooden parts of the roof, windows and doors as true to the original as possible. Other residential buildings were restored or rebuilt in the old style.

Attractions

  • The Exhibition Halls 1 and 2 are a museum. Showcases of audiovisual materials depicting Srinagarindra's childhood and the life of the Anongkharam neighborhood community are displayed here.
  • A " model house " was decorated with objects as described by Princess Galyani Vadhana in her book "Mae Lao Hai Fang".
  • For the Sriphiphat (Pae Bunnag) Art Center , a building that was the residence of the director of the Royal Department Stores in the time of King Chulalongkorn has been restored as a space for art exhibitions.
  • In the middle of a small square an open “octagonal pavilion” was built, which was to serve as a reminder of the completion of the eighth 12-year birthday cycle of Srinagarindra. The princess died two years before completion at the age of 94. The pavilion serves as protection from sun and rain during music concerts or lectures.
  • Opposite the octagonal pavilion is a "large sculpture", a roughly 2 × 15 meter large rectangular sandstone block, which is covered on the front and back with reliefs depicting scenes from the life of Princess Srinagarindra.
  • Another building has been restored in the old style, where souvenirs and refreshments are sold to visitors.
  • An old draw well has been preserved on the site. In addition, the ruins of several small houses have been preserved as such.
