Wat Anongkharam
Wat Anongkharam (full name: Wat Anongkharam Worawihan , Thai : วัด อน ง คารา ม วรวิหาร ) is a Buddhist temple ( wat ) on the Thonburi side of Mae Nam Chao Phraya in the Khlong San district of Bangkok , Thailand .
Wat Anongkharam is located on the "Thanon Somdet Chao Phraya" (Somdet Chao Phraya Road) . It was founded in the early Rattanakosin period under the name "Wat Noi Kham Thaem". This is the name given to it by its founder, Than Phuying Noi, the wife of Somdej Chao Phraya Borom Mahaphichaiyart ( That Bunnag ). Wat Anongkharam was intended as a counterpoint to Wat Phichaiyat , which is across the street. King Mongkut (Rama IV.) Later gave it its current name Wat Anongkharam. The locals also call it "Wat Somdet Ya" because it is located in the area where the mother of King Bhumibol Adulyadej , Srinagarindra , was born.
The Wihan and the Ubosot are arranged in a T-shape, each with its own vestibule and its own altar. The gables ( tympanum ), richly decorated with stucco, and the door and window frames are striking on both buildings . A Buddha statue of Wihan is called "Phra Chulanak" (Thai: พระ จุล นาค ). It is cast from metal in the Sukhothai style and gilded. It is about 1.50 meters high and about 1.40 meters wide at the knees.
To the right and left of the Wihan are two Mondop symmetrically to each other . One contains a Buddha's footprint , the other a Buddha statue. The latter is a copy of a statue of Wat Rachathiwat .
