Rodney Atkinson

Rodney Eric Bainbridge Atkinson (* 1948 ) is an English economist , publicist and politician .

Life

Atkinson was born in County Durham , the first of four children to a farming and business family. His youngest brother is the comedian Rowan Atkinson .

He studied economics, German and Scandinavian studies at the University of Durham and Newcastle University . In the mid-1970s he was a lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He later worked as a merchant banker in the City of London and served as an advisor to the government under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher .

In 1994 he founded The Campaign for United Kingdom Conservativism . In the 1997 general election, he ran for the Eurosceptic Referendum Party , which sought a referendum on the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union . In the European elections in 1999 he was a candidate for the UK Independence Party . In 2000 he narrowly lost the election for the party chairmanship against Member of the European Parliament Jeffrey Titford . Shortly thereafter, Atkinson resigned from the party. He is the operator of the EU-critical website Free Nations .

Rodney Atkinson has authored several books and around 80 essays and theses on the subject of the political economy of Europe and Great Britain. He represents libertarian ideas on a conservative basis and opposes both right- wing and left-wing extremism . He advocates a withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU and warns of a possible introduction of the euro in his home country. He opposes European integration with a vision of completely sovereign European nation-states each with their own currency.
