Lat Krabang ( Thai : ลาดกระบัง ) is one of the 50 khet (districts) in the eastern suburb of Bangkok , the capital of Thailand .
geography
The neighboring districts are clockwise from the north: Min Buri and Nong Chok (Bangkok), Mueang Chachoengsao ( Chachoengsao Province ), Bang Bo , Bang Sao Thong and Bang Phli ( Samut Prakan Province ), and Prawet and Saphan Sung (Bangkok).
Lat Krabang is the Bangkok district with the second largest area (after Nong Chok) and also one of the least populated. It has a suburban structure , and in its eastern part it is still rural.
history
Lat Krabang was originally a district of the ancient Min Buri province and was called Amphoe Saen Saep until 1927. In 1931, like Min Buri, it became part of the enlarged Bangkok (Phra Nakhon) Province.
The population and density of Lat Krabang has increased significantly since the mid-1980s. Compared to 56,000 inhabitants in 1985, it had doubled by 1999 and even tripled by 2014.
Thailand's new international airport, Suvarnabhumi International Airport, is located in the neighboring Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan Province ( Changwat ) . The government is therefore planning to merge Bang Phli with the Amphoe Bang Sao Thong (also Samut Prakan Province) together with the Bangkok Khet Prawet and Lat Krabang to form a new Nakhon Suvarnabhumi Province .
