Festivals

  • Bang Phli is known for the annual Lotus Blossom Festival ( Rap Bua ), which takes place on the last day of the three-month rainy season retreat ( Ok Phansa , จัด งาน ออกพรรษา ), i.e. the 14th day of the waxing moon in the eleventh month of the Thai lunar calendar . This day usually falls on the full moon in October. A boat with a copy of the Luang Poh To Buddha statue from Wat Bang Pli Yai travels through the main khlong (canals) of the district. Thousands of spectators on the bank and on small accompanying boats throw lotus blossoms at the boat to offer them to the Buddha as an offering until the statue can hardly be seen under the lotus blossoms.
