Amphoe Phra Samut Chedi ( Thai อำเภอ พระ สมุทร เจดีย์ , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː pʰráʔ sāmút tɕēːdīː ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the west of Samut Prakan Province . The province of Samut Prakan is located in the central region of Thailand on the southeastern outskirts of Bangkok .

Samut Prakan belongs to the Bangkok metropolitan area , the transition between the two cities is fluid.

Neighboring districts (clockwise from west): the Khet (districts of Bangkok) Bang Khun Thian and Thung Khru as well as Amphoe Phra Pradaeng and (on the opposite bank of Mae Nam Chao Phraya ) Amphoe Mueang Samut Prakan of Samut Prakan Province.

history

The district was initially set up on December 15, 1984 as a "branch district" ( King Amphoe ) by separating five communities ( Tambon ) from the Mueang Samut Prakan district . On July 15, 1991, Phra Samut Chedi was granted full amphoe status.

Attractions

The district is named after the temple Phra Samut Chedi, which was built in 1827/1828 by King Phra Phutthaloetla Naphalai ( Rama II ) on an island in the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ). The landmark, the snow-white chedi , was still in the middle of the river at that time, which is why it was also called Phra Chedi Klang Nam ("Chedi in the middle of the river"). Due to the formation of sediments, it is now on the west bank.

At the mouth of the Chao Phraya is the Chulachomklao Fort ( ป้อม พระ จุลจอมเกล้า ), which was built in 1893 and was only used once, namely during the Pak-Nam incident in the same year. The fort is now prepared for tourists, in the park is also the HTMS Maeklong , a former training ship of the Royal Thai Navy .

There are two municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

  • Phra Samut Chedi (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พระ สมุทร เจดีย์ ) consisting of the complete Tambon Pak Khlong Bang Pla Kot.
  • Laem Fa Pha (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แหลม ฟ้าผ่า ) consisting of the parts of the tambon Laem Fa Pha, Nai Khlong Bang Pla Kot.
