Bangkok metropolitan area
The Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR) (Thai: กรุงเทพมหานคร และ ปริมณฑล ) in Thailand includes the city of Bangkok and the provinces of Nakhon Pathom , Nonthaburi , Pathum Thani , Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon .

The area of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region is 7761.5 square kilometers. In the Census 2010, in the metropolitan region of 14,570,000 people counted, the registration office were registered with primary residence in the same year 10330000. In 2000 there were around 10.08 million people living in the region, of which 9.40 million were registered with the residents' registration office. The difference is explained by the different definitions of the term “residents” in censuses and updates of population figures from the population register .
The BMR is the dominant region in the country. All important political and economic decisions are made in the capital. The per capita gross domestic product is around ten times higher than in the poorest region, the Isan . While the capital region developed economically, large parts of the country did not benefit or even saw a decline in gross domestic product. As a result of this primacy, the BMR has had an immense increase in migration over the past few decades. Population growth in the metropolitan area has been about twice that of the rest of the country since 1960.
