The Shinawatra University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย ชิน วัตร , Shinawatra University, short SIU) is a university in Pathum Thani , Thailand . The university was founded and co-financed by Thaksin Shinawatra , the former Prime Minister of Thailand .

General

Shinawatra University offers only international courses, i. H. the courses are held in English . The university offers a wide range of courses in engineering and science as well as related management education.

Shinawatra University aims to help attract creative and enterprising people through a wide range of education. The training concept goes hand in hand with the life of the founder, who studied abroad himself and was a successful businessman in the technology sector. The university's president is Prinya Tantaswadi.

history

Thaksin Shinawatra founded the university in 1996. To this end, he donated one billion baht (around 20 million euros) from the family's fortune. The Ministry of University Affairs licensed the university in 1999.

The first president was Purachai Piumsombun. He was followed by Sangsan Panit (2000 to 2002), Wittaya Manawicharoen (2002 to 2003) and Thanong Bidaya (2003 to 2004). Somchat Soponronnarit is currently President of Shinawatra University.

There are two branches of organization. One serves the technology and science sector, the other the administrative sector.

The central campus of Shinawatra University is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Sam Khok province ( Changwat ) Pathum Thani , about 50 kilometers north of the capital Bangkok . The modern buildings are characterized, among other things, by their energy-efficient construction .
