QS World University Rankings

The QS World University Rankings is a global university ranking , which the QS Quacquarelli Symonds performing since the year of 2004. The company QS , founded by Wharton School graduate Quacquarelli, is active worldwide in the field of education / study abroad and has offices in London, Paris, Singapore, Shanghai, Boston, Washington DC, Johannesburg and Alicante with 150 employees. The ranking list was published by the media company TSL Education as Times Higher Education magazine until 2009 . Since 2010, the media partner US News & World Report has published the list as the World's best Universities . The college and university rankings published by US News & World Report since 1983 are considered the most influential of all rankings, despite fundamental criticism of the methodology, particularly in the USA and Canada.

International Council of Experts

QS World University Rankings has set up an international high-level advisory board . This commission is made up of 20 experts from Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America. They submit reports and recommendations for action on the reliability and trustworthiness of the ranking methods and results.

Ranking

Universities around the world are compared on the basis of eight indicators. In addition to research, the focus of the evaluation is, for example, publications and Nobel Prizes. A university ranking for around 800 universities as well as other rankings for "By Faculty", "By Subject", "By Location" and "Academic Criteria" are published annually.

Result

A large part of the top 20 in the ranking is occupied by US universities. They fall on 10 of the top 20 universities worldwide. The first German-speaking university is in 6th place with ETH Zurich . The first German university, the Technical University of Munich , is in 55th place. The University of Vienna is the first Austrian university in 154th place.
