The Nanyang Technical University ( English Nanyang Technological University; abbreviation NTU; Mandarin : 南洋 理工 大学 - Nányáng Lǐgōng Dàxué, abbreviated: 南大; Malay : Universiti Teknologi Nanyang) is a university in the city-state of Singapore . It is considered one of the top institutions in Asia and is one of the best young elite universities worldwide.

history

The 2 km² Yunnan Garden Campus is located 25 km outside of the city center in the Jurong district in the southwest . The private Chinese Nanyang University had been located there since 1956 , until it was forcibly merged with the National University of Singapore in 1980 . In the following year the Nanyang Technological Institute was founded, which in 1991 became today's university.

There are four colleges (faculties) divided into a total of 12 schools (institutes). The focus is on engineering and applied natural sciences, with economics, art and the humanities also being taught.

The National Institute of Education (abbreviated: NIE) has also been located on the NTU campus since 2001, and is responsible for teacher training for secondary school teachers in Singapore.

Around 38,000 students are trained at the institutions. In addition to the institutes, there are also numerous student dormitories, canteens, sports facilities, fast food restaurants, a supermarket and residential complexes for university employees on campus.

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine was founded in 2013 in cooperation with Imperial College London and with extensive donations, including from the Lee Foundation .

Nanyang Business School

The Nanyang Business School (NBS), with over 6,800 undergraduate and graduate students, the largest business school in the country.
