Debra Fischer

Debra Ann Fischer (* 1953 ) is an American astronomer.

Fischer studied physics at the University of Iowa and earned her Bachelor of Science in 1975. In 1986 she began graduate studies in physics and astronomy at San Francisco State University (SFSU); In 1992 she did her Master of Science. From 1994 she did research at the University of California, Santa Cruz and received her PhD there in 1998.

Fischer was professor of astronomy at San Francisco State University and the University of California, Berkeley, and has been a professor at Yale University since 2009 .

Fischer is the co-author of more than 80 scientific papers on dwarf stars and substellar object masses in the galactic neighborhood, v. a. many extrasolar planets . She is also a member of Geoffrey Marcy's planet search team, which searches for extrasolar planets and has already discovered many. In 2012 Fischer was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Debra Fischer has three children.
