Rayong is first mentioned during the reign of King Maha Thammaracha in the Ayutthaya period . During the Burmese invasion, which marked the end of the empire of Ayutthaya, Phraya Kamphaengphet, who later became King Taksin , began his triumphal march through all of Siam and beyond from Rayong and Chanthaburi . The first victory of his followers was the capture of Rayong, followed seven days later by that of Chanthaburi.
