Amphoe Mueang Rayong ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง ระยอง ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in Rayong Province . Rayong Province is located in the east of the central region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring districts (clockwise from west): Ban Chang , Nikhom Phatthana , Ban Khai , Wang Chan, and Klaeng ; all belong to Rayong Province. In the south lies the Gulf of Thailand .

history

The district was originally called Mueang . It was renamed Tha Pradu ( ท่า ประดู่ ) in 1917 , after its central tambon . In 1938 it was renamed again, this time to its current name Mueang Rayong .

Economy and environment

Located west of Rayong City, Tambon Map Ta Phut is a center of Thailand's petrochemical and heavy industry and has a deep water port . By 2006, over 100 factories had settled in the former fishing village. These often produce hazardous waste , which in many cases is not properly disposed of. Industrial accidents and air pollution have a major impact on the environment and the health of the population in the region.

In July and August 2013, the area hit the international headlines when, after a leak in a pipeline, an oil spill also heavily polluted the popular and protected holiday island of Ko Samet .

  • Rayong (Thai: เทศบาล นคร ระยอง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Tha Pradu, Pak Nam and the parts of the Tambon Choeng Noen, Noen Phra.

There is one commune with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:

  • Map Ta Phut (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง มาบตาพุด ) consisting of the complete Tambon Huai Pong, Map Ta Phut and parts of the Tambon Noen Phra, Thap Ma, Map Kha.

There are six municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

  • Choeng Noen (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เชิง เนิน ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Choeng Noen.
  • Noen Phra (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล เนิน พระ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Noen Phra.
  • Nam Khok (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล น้ำ คอก ) consisting of the complete tambon Nam Khok.
  • Klaeng Kachet (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แกลง กะ เฉด ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Klaeng, Kachet.
  • Ban Phe (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน เพ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Phe.
  • Thap Ma (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ทับ มา ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Thap Ma.

In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administration Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

  • Ban Laeng (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บ้าน แลง ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Laeng.
  • Na Ta Khwan (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล นา ตา ขวัญ ) consisting of the complete tambon Na Ta Khwan.
  • Kachet (Thai: องค์การ บริหารส่วน ตำบล กะ เฉด ) consisting of parts of the tambon kachet.
  • Samnak Thong (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สำนัก ทอง ) consisting of the complete Tambon Samnak Thong.
