Economy and importance

The main products of agriculture are the yields of the orchards : durian , rambutan and mangosteen , also sugar cane , cassava and pineapple .

A large part of the Thai fish sauce ( น้ำปลา - Nam Pla ), which is indispensable in Thai cuisine, is made in Rayong .

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Rayong and its vicinity developed through an initiative (Eastern Seeboard) of the Thai government into an economic zone with the new deep sea port Map Ta Put and the settlement of numerous western and Asian large companies such as BASF , BMW , Toyota , General Motors and Ford . Ford opened a large plant in May 2012 at a cost of $ 450 million. An unpleasant side effect is the heavy environmental pollution in some areas from industrial and sometimes toxic exhaust gases.

It was in Rayong when his soldiers offered him the title of king because of his courage and organizational power.
