Phichit ( Thai : พิจิตร ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the northern region of Thailand . The capital of Phichit Province is also called Phichit .
Phichit means "beautiful" or "worth seeing".
geography
The province of Phichit is about 350 kilometers north of the capital Bangkok .
The province is also called the land of crocodiles , the rivers and swamps of the region are home to the Siamese crocodile .
The two rivers Maenam Mae Nam Nan ( Nan River ) and Mae Nam Yom ( Yom River ) run almost parallel to each other from north to south through the province before they unite in the neighboring province of Nakhon Sawan to the south and headwaters of the Mae Nam Chao Phraya ( Chao Phraya River ).

The climate in the Phichit Province is tropical - monsoonal with three distinct seasons : hot season, rainy season and cool season.

history
The oldest city in the province is the capital Phichit, it was founded in 1058 by Phraya Kotabongthevaraja . The region was part of the Sukhothai Kingdom before it came under the rule of Ayutthaya with its decline . Over time, the name of the city changed a few times. So it was first called Mueang Sra Luang (City by the Royal Pond), in the time of the Ayutthaya Kingdom it was named Okhaburi (City in the Swamp) and was finally renamed Phichit (Beautiful City).
Attractions
- Wat Pho Prathap Chang - (in Amphoe Pho Prathap Chang, about 27 kilometers south of the provincial capital) is a Buddhist temple complex ( Wat ) that has been abandoned for over 200 years and has many large trees, some of which are over 200 years old. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century by King Phrachao Suea ( Tiger King , also Luang Sorasak ) at his birthplace. By the way, a copy of the entrance gate to the temple is in the Ancient City ( Mueang Boran ) in Samut Prakan near Bangkok.
- Wat Nakhon Chum - (in Amphoe Mueang, 9 kilometers outside the city) is a Buddhist temple from the Sukhothai period, in Ubosot there is a large Buddha statue in Sukhothai style.
Symbols and motto
The seal of the province shows a pond with a banyan tree in the foreground. The pond symbolizes the ancient name of Phichit Mueang Sra Luang (City on the Royal Pond). The banyan tree refers to the temple complex Wat Pho Prathab Chang , built under King Phrachao Suea 1669–71, which was supposed to commemorate his place of birth between a banyan tree and a sacred fig. The local tree is the iron tree ( Mesua ferrea ), the local flower is the lotus ( Nymphaea lotus ).
The motto of Phichit Province is:

annual boat races are exciting and full of fun,

The center of the city is the Buddhadnis Luang Pho Phet."

Provincial Administration
The province is divided into twelve districts ( Amphoe ) . The districts are further subdivided into 89 communes ( tambon ) and 852 villages ( muban ) .

Local administration
A provincial administrative organization ( บริหาร ส่วน จังหวัด , อบ จ for short , Ongkan Borihan suan Changwat ; English Provincial Administrative Organization , PAO) exists for the entire area of the province .
There are three cities ( เทศบาล เมือง - Thesaban Mueang ) in the province : Phichit ( เทศบาล เมือง พิจิตร ), Bang Mun Nak ( เทศบาล เมือง บางมูลนาก ) and Taphan Hin ( เทศบาล เมือง ตะพานหิน ). There are also 21 small towns ( เทศบาล ตำบล - Thesaban Tambon ).
