Georg Walter Vincent von Wiese (born April 2, 1769 in Rostock as Georg Walter Vincent Wiese ; † November 22, 1824 probably in Gera ; also Georg Walter Vincen z von Wiese ) was a Russian statesman.

Life

Georg Walter Vincent Wiese was the son of the Rostock law professor Walter Vincent Wiese (1735–1809). It is very likely that he attended the large city school in Rostock, passed his Abitur there and studied law and philosophy in his hometown from 1787 to 1791. In 1793 he got a job as court and government councilor at the Russian government council in Gera. In 1806 he was given the title of nobility just a few weeks before the abdication of Emperor Franz II. Shortly afterwards he was appointed Vice Chancellor of the House of Reuss.

Georg Walter Vincent von Wiese married the daughter of the Gera mayor and merchant Marcus Friedrich Semmel (1751–1801), owner of the manors Dorna, Caesen and Seeligenstadt. After her death in 1806 he married a Fräulein vd Lancken von Rügen. He had no offspring.

As Vice Chancellor of the entire government, Wiese represented the Russians at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, where he was also supported by Prince Heinrich XIII. von Greiz , Prince Heinrich LI. von Ebersdorf , the Hereditary Prince Heinrich XII. (Reuss-Lobenstein) was accompanied by Lobenstein and the Hereditary Prince von Schleiz . With the exception of Heinrich XIII, who was able to score points due to his old relations with Austria, the Russian embassy remained meaningless during the negotiations. In January 1815, Wiese sent Prince Metternich his draft constitution for the German Confederation , which, however, provided for a too clear dominance of the small states and not only for this reason was not even answered by Metternich. Nonetheless, Wiese brought the small states threatened by mediatization successfully and unscathed through the negotiations. Due to the good connections of Heinrich XIII. with the Liechtenstein Prince Johann I Josef , Wiese was also appointed Liechtenstein's representative in February 1815.

From 1816, Wiese was a member of the Frankfurt Bundestag . In 1822 he became a Privy Councilor and Chancellor of the entire Russian government. He died on November 22, 1824 at the age of 53.

Wiesestrasse in Gera-Debschwitz was named after Wiese .
