Frères de Saint-Gabriel

The Congregation of the Frères de Saint-Gabriel (official name Frères de l'instruction chrétienne de Saint-Gabriel ; Latin Institutum Fratrum instructionis christianae a Sancto Gabriele , SG; translated: Brothers of the Christian instruction of Saint Gabriel; Gabrielists for short ) is a Catholic lay brother order , which was founded in 1715 by St. Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort (1643–1716).

The community, which is dedicated to teaching and education, never had more than 30 members in the 18th century, but then grew to 1,027 brothers by 1900. Today (2003) the congregation counts 1,200 brothers in all parts of the world (including France , Belgium , Canada , India , Thailand , USA , Mauritius , Madagascar , Brazil and England ), where it runs schools.
