Amphoe Phanat Nikhom ( Thai : อำเภอ พนัสนิคม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of Chonburi Province . The Chonburi Province is located in the east of the central region of Thailand .
geography
The neighboring areas are clockwise from the east: Ko Chan , Bo Thong , Ban Bueng, and Phan Thong in Chonburi Province, and Ban Pho and Plaeng Yao in Chachoengsao Province .
history
The area was settled thousands of years ago, as excavations in Nong Nor and Khok Phanom Di have shown. Phanat Nikhom itself is an ancient settlement that can be dated back to the Khmer Empire . Archaeologists found ruins of a city fortification in the district. In the Rattanakosin period, King Nang Klao (Rama III) founded the city ( Mueang ) Phanat Nikhom in 1828 . In 1904 it was made a district of Chonburi Province by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) .
