The Koh Samui airport (officially Samui International Airport : "International Samui airport," Thai : ท่าอากาศยาน นานาชาติ ส มุ ย ) is a small, built to 1989 from 1982 Thai Airport . It is the only airport on Ko Samui Island . At first it was only served by Bangkok Airways , which also operates the airport itself. After long and difficult negotiations, the airport was also opened to competitors. Thai Airways has been flying to Ko Samui since February 2008 , along with Malaysian, Singaporean and Chinese airlines .
Incidents
- On November 21, 1990, a De Havilland DHC-8-103 of Bangkok Airways Flight 125 crashed while attempting to land at Ko Samui Airport in heavy rain and strong winds. All 38 people on board were killed.
- On August 4, 2009, the crew of Bangkok Airways Flight 266 lost control of a wet runway and drove into a disused control tower. One of the two pilots died.
