from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ri Song-hui (born December 3, 1978 ) is a North Korean weightlifter .

Career

Ri Song-hui started lifting weights when she was 14 . In 1996 she appeared with a performance of 182.5 kg in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight on the 2nd place of the annual world best list. Internationally, she first appeared in 1997 when she took second place in the weight class up to 54 kg body weight at the World Championships in Chiangmai / Thailand . Until 2004 she started at all important international events, was once world champion in the all-around competition and won two Olympic silver medals. It was certainly disappointing for her that she could not take the chance to win the Olympic Games at the 2000 Olympic Games in the absence of the high favorite Chen Yanqing and was surprisingly defeated by the Mexican Soraya Jiminez because of a weak form of the day. Otherwise, she fought with Olympic champions Udomporn Polsak from Thailand and Chen Yanqing at many events.
