The brown-yellow willow leaf beetle ( Lochmaea capreae ) is a species of the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae).
features
The beetles grow to be four to six millimeters long. Their body is brown-yellow to yellow, with the head, the scutellum and occasionally the indentations on the pronotum are black. Otherwise, the pronotum is light, the wings are unevenly structured dark point-like. The antennae are light at the base and dark in color towards the tip. On the legs, the thighs ( femora ) are dark, the splints ( tibia ) and tarsi light colored. The species can be confused with Lochmaea suturalis , which, however, has a finer point-like structure and whose wings are often darkened at the seam . The label is also brown at the base, lightly colored towards the tip and there is usually a yellow spot in front of the compound eyes. Lochmaea crataegi is distinguished by the third antenna segment, which is slightly longer than the fourth, and by the brightly colored head.
Occurrence
The animals are distributed almost in the entire Palearctic and are also found locally in the British Isles . In the north, the distribution extends to the continental border. The animals appear from April to September and can be found particularly on birch , poplar and willow trees . The females lay their eggs under stones, old leaves or moss, for example. The species occurs sometimes as a pest on wicker willows .
