Wing top seam

Spherical ladybird : the black colored wing cover seam along the back is clearly visible

The wing cover seam is the line running along the back of beetles and other insects with elytric wing covers that is formed between these two wings. It can be designed in different ways and thus serve as a feature for determining the type. Sometimes the wing covers can have grown together at the seam and thus form a closed chitin armor. This occurs mainly in larger species of ground beetles that are unable to fly.

The angle between the wing cover seam and the end of the wing cover is called the seam angle.
