Viktors Ščerbatihs (born October 6, 1974 in Dobele ) is a Latvian weightlifter and member of parliament.

Career

Ščerbatihs has been represented on the international stages for almost two decades. He won his first major medals at the 1997 World Championships in Chiang Mai . There, Ščerbatihs, who recently switched to the super heavyweight (over 108 kg at the time), won bronze three times.

In the following years, Ščerbatihs was gradually able to establish himself in his class. So he won several medals at world and European championships and finished second behind Hossein Rezazadeh at his third Olympic Games in 2004 in Athens with 455 kg in a duel .

From 2005 to 2008, Ščerbatihs won all European championship titles in duels, as well as various medals in the individual disciplines. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he took third place after he was able to bring in only one push attempt with 242 kg in the rating after 206 kg in the tear, and thus came to 448 kg in a duel

In 2005 and 2007 he was voted Latvian Sportsman of the Year .
