European Judo Championships 1999
The 1999 European Judo Championships took place in Bratislava from May 20th to 23rd . It was the first and to date only European Judo Championships in Slovakia. The host country won a silver medal through Semir Pepic .
Ulla Werbrouck had won four light heavyweight titles in a row, after changing the weight classes in 1998, she won the middleweight division for the second time. Gella Vandecaveye won her fourth light middleweight title. They also successfully defended their title from the previous year: Larbi Benboudaoud in the half light weight, Giuseppe Maddaloni in the light weight, Tamerlan Tmenow in the heavy weight and Selim Tataroğlu in the open class as well as Sarah Nichilo in the super light weight and Isabel Fernández in the light weight.
