European Judo Championships 1976

The 1976 European Judo Championships for men took place in Kiev from May 6th to 9th . It was the only European judo championship to be held in the Soviet Union . In front of their home crowd, the Soviet team was the dominant team and provided four out of six European champions. No title holder from 1975 could defend his title.

Sergei Novikov won gold at the Montreal Olympics in late July . With Tuncsik, Talaj and Dwoinikow, three other medalists from Kiev also won an Olympic medal in 1976.
