Adam Eucharyst Adamczyk (born October 1, 1950 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish judoka who was third in the world championship in 1975 and European champion in 1977.

Athletic career

The 1.73 m tall Adam Adamczyk fought until 1976 in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 80 kilograms. He won the Polish Open Championships in 1972. at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he was eliminated in his first fight after 2:12 minutes by a grab handle ( kami shiho gatame ) against New Zealander Rick Littlewood . At the end of 1972 Adamczyk won his first Polish championship title. In 1973 he lost at the 1973 World Championships in Lausanne in his second fight against Bernd Look from the GDR. At the European Championships in London in 1974 he received a bronze medal. After winning his second Polish championship title, he took part in the student world championships in Brussels in November 1974 and won a bronze medal in the open class. At the European Championships in 1975 in Lyon, he was now starting again in the middleweight division, also a bronze medal. In October 1975 the World Championships took place in Vienna. After a quarter-final defeat against the Japanese Yoshimi Hara , he defeated Fred Marhenke from the Federal Republic of Germany in the hope round and the Hungarian Endre Kiss in the battle for bronze . At the European Championships in 1976 in Kiev Adamczyk reached the final and won silver behind the French Jean-Paul Coche . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Adamczyk defeated Belgian Daniel Guldemont after 4:30 minutes in his first fight . In the round of 16 he was defeated by the Yugoslav Slavko Obadov by Ippon after 27 seconds.

After the reorganization of the weight classes, Adam Adamczyk fought in the light middleweight division, the new weight class up to 78 kilograms, from 1977. At the European Championships in 1977 in Ludwigshafen, Adamczyk won the title with a final victory over Harald Heinke from the GDR. At the end of 1977 he won his first championship title in his new weight class. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 1978 Adamczyk defeated Jurek Jatowitt , who started for Austria, in the semi-finals . In the final he came to a new edition of the previous year's final, this time Heinke wins and Adamczyk received silver. Shortly afterwards Adamczyk won his last Polish championship title. In November 1978 he reached the final at the Jigoro Kano Cup in Tokyo, where he was defeated by the Japanese Shōzō Fujii . Apart from Adamczyk, only Dietmar Lorenz from the GDR and the French Jean-Luc Rougé reached the final of the Jigoro Kano Cup as non-Japanese in 1978 . In 1979 Adamczyk won his last international medal with bronze at the European Championships in Brussels . At the 1979 World Championships in Paris, he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Harald Heinke.
