Bernd Look

Bernd Look (born 1949) is a former German judoka who competed for the GDR . In 1973 he won a bronze medal at the world and European championships.

Athletic career

Bernd Look took part in the 1966 Spartakiade as an A-youth for Dynamo Halberstadt . As an adult, Bernd Look fought for the ASK Forward Frankfurt in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 80 kilograms. At the GDR championships in 1971 he reached the final of the GDR championships and was defeated by Fritz Skopec, in 1972 Bernd Look won. Look also won the Dutch Open in 1972. In 1973, Look took second place behind Jochen Bech at the GDR championships . At the European Championships in Madrid in 1973 , Look reached the pool final with victories over Martin Poglajen from the Netherlands, Antoni Reiter from Poland and Pütz from the Federal Republic of Germany. After defeats against Guram Gogolauri from the Soviet Union and the French Guy Auffray , Look defeated the Hungarian Mihály Szabó in the battle for bronze . A month and a half after the European Championships, the 1973 World Championships took place in Lausanne . Look defeated among others the Belgian Gilbert Gustin and lost to the two Japanese Shōzō Fujii and Isamu Sonoda . In the battle for bronze he defeated Andrei Tschupashenko from the Soviet Union. In 1974 Look won the GDR championships, in 1975 he was second again behind Jochen Bech. Look still took part in the World Championships in Vienna in 1975 , but was eliminated in the round of 16 against Frenchman Jean-Paul Coche .
