Martin Poglajen

Martin Poglajen (born September 28, 1942 in Essen ) is a former Dutch judoka . He was European middleweight champion in 1965, the weight class up to 80 kilograms.

Career

The 1.76 m tall Martin Poglajen won the silver medal in the open class at the 1964 European Championships in West Berlin behind his compatriot Anton Geesink . The following year he won the middleweight title at the 1965 European Championships in Madrid against French Patrick Clement . In 1966, Poglajen won a bronze medal at the 1966 European Championships in Luxembourg. In 1967 Poglajen reached the final at the 1967 World Championships in Salt Lake City. After his loss to the Japanese Eiji Maruki , he received the silver medal.

In 1969 Poglajen won a bronze medal each at the European Championships in 1969 in Ostend and at the 1969 World Championships in Mexico City. In 1970 he reached the final at the 1970 European Championships in East Berlin, where he was defeated by Brian Jacks from Britain . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Poglajen won his first fight against the Madagascar Jean de Dieu Razafimahatratra , in his second fight he was eliminated from the Soviet Union against Guram Gogolauri .

1973 Martin Poglajen won the Dutch championship title in both middleweight and open class.
