Jean-Paul Coche

Jean-Paul Coche (born July 25, 1947 in Nice ) is a former French judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1972.

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Coche was national middleweight champion in 1970, 1974 and 1976, and won the open class in 1968, 1973, 1974 and 1975. Internationally, Coche competed exclusively in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 80 kilograms.

In 1966 Coche was third in the Junior European Championships, in 1968 he finished second. At the Judo World Championships in 1969 , he finished fifth after losing to the Japanese Katsuya Hirao in the pool finals and against the Dutch Martin Poglajen in the battle for the bronze medal. In 1972, Coche defeated Guram Gogolauri from the Soviet Union in the final of the European Championships in Voorburg . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he lost to Briton Brian Jacks after two wins . In the hope round, Coche defeated the Germans Gerd Egger and Guram Gogolauri and thus reached the semifinals. There he was defeated by the South KoreanOh Seung-lip .

In 1974, Coche won his second European title in London by winning the final over Antoni Reiter from Poland . At the Judo World Championships in Vienna in 1975 he was defeated by the Japanese Shōzō Fujii in the semifinals, but won the battle for the bronze medal against Alexei Wolosow from the Soviet Union. In 1976 Coche defeated Adam Adamczyk from Poland in the final of the European Championships in Kiev . At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , Coche was eliminated from the Federal Republic of Germany in his second fight against Fred Marhenke .
