Slavko Obadov

Slavko Obadov (born July 12, 1948 in Zemun , Belgrade ) is a former Yugoslav judoka who took part in the Olympic Games three times. In 1976 he won a bronze middleweight medal.

Obadov was a Yugoslav cadet master in 1966. In 1968 he won the first championship title in the adult class. In 1969 he won the light middleweight division at the European Junior Championships. In the same year he finished seventh at the Judo World Championships in 1969 after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual world champion Hiroshi Minatoya . At the 1972 Olympic Games he won his first two middleweight fights and then lost to Guram Gogolauri from the Soviet Union.

In 1975 Obadov won the bronze medal at the European team championships with the Yugoslav team. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal he won his first three fights, in the semifinals he lost to the Soviet judoka Valeri Dwoinikow . Obadow won the battle for bronze against the Spaniard José Luis de Frutos .

At the European Championships in 1979 Obadov reached the middleweight finals, but lost there against the Swiss Jürg Röthlisberger . In the same year Obadov won the Mediterranean Games. At the Olympic tournament in Moscow in 1980 he won his first fight, but then retired from the Soviet Union against Aleksandrs Jackēvičs .

Yugoslav championship title

Obadov won a total of 13 Yugoslav championship titles. As the weight divisions changed in the 1970s, the weight restrictions are given.

  • up to 70 kg: 1968, 1969, 1970 (light middle weight)
  • up to 80 kg: 1971, 1973, 1975, 1976 (middle weight)
  • up to 86 kg: 1978, 1979, 1980 (middle weight)
  • over 95 kg: 1977 (heavyweight)
  • open class: 1975, 1981
