Hiroshi Minatoya

Hiroshi Minatoya ( Japanese 湊 谷 弘 , Minotoya Hiroshi ; born October 17, 1943 in Toyama ; † June 15, 2016 ) was a Japanese judoka who was world champion in the weight class up to 70 kilograms in 1967 and 1969.

Hiroshi Minotoya won the silver medal behind his compatriot Hirofumi Matsuda at the 1965 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . Two years later he met the South Korean Park Kil-sun in the final of the 1967 World Championships in Salt Lake City and won his first title. At the 1969 World Championships in Mexico City, Minotoya competed and won six fights, in the final he defeated his compatriot Yoshimitsu Kōno . Minotoya received his fourth world championship medal in 1971 in Ludwigshafen . Until the final he won six fights, in the final he was defeated by his compatriot Hisashi Tsuzawa . In 1972 he was defeated at the Japanese championships against Toyokazu Nomura , who then started and won the 1972 Olympic Games .
