European Judo Championships 1987

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1987 European Judo Championships took place in Paris from May 7th to 10th . Four years earlier, the 1983 Men's European Championships were held in Paris. 36 years after the first European championships for men, then also in Paris, and twelve years after the first European championships for women, the European championships in 1987 were the first European championships in which the competitions for men and women were decided at the same event.

The host nation France provided the most successful team with six European champions. While no title holder from the previous year was able to successfully defend his title from Belgrade in the men's category , three winners from London won again: Karen Briggs in the super light weight, Dominique Maaoui-Brun in the light weight and Irene de Kok in the light heavy weight.
