Dominique Brun or Dominique Maaoui-Brun (born May 7, 1964 in Mareuil , Dordogne ) is a former French judoka . She was world champion in 1986 and European champion in 1986 and 1987.

Athletic career

Dominique Brun fought in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 1984, 1986 and 1988 she was French champion.

In March 1986, she entered the European Championships in London. In the semifinals she defeated the Polish Joanna Majdan and in the final she defeated Edith Hrovat from Austria. Seven months later the World Championships took place in Maastricht . Dominique Brun won the quarter-finals against the Canadian Kathy Hubble . After her semi-final victory against Edith Hrovat, she defeated the Japanese Kaori Yamaguchi in the final . In 1987 at the European Championships in Paris she successfully defended her title from the previous year, in the semifinals she defeated the Italian Alessandra Giungi , the final she won against Edith Hrovat. At the 1987 World Championships in Essen, Brun won the quarter-finals against Maritza Perez Cardenas from Cuba. In the semifinals she was defeated by the British Sharon Rendle , in the battle for a bronze medal she defeated Jo Anne Quiring from the United States.

In 1988 at the European Championships in Pamplona, ​​Brun won a bronze medal behind Alessandra Giungi and the Finn Jaana Ronkainen . At the 1988 Olympic Games , women's judo was held as a demonstration competition. In her first fight, Brun won against the Moroccan Khadija Haouati after 1:01 minutes. In the semifinals she met Kaori Yamaguchi and won with a coca rating. Brun lost the final against Sharon Rendle to Yusei-gachi (referee decision). After her active career, Dominique Brun became a judo trainer, among other things she was the home trainer of the 2000 Olympic champion Séverine Vandenhende .
