Uta Abe

Uta Abe ( Japanese 阿 部 詩 Abe Uta ; * July 14, 2000 ) is a Japanese judoka . She was world champion in 2018 and 2019.

Athletic career

Uta Abe fights in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In 2016 she finished second behind Natsumi Tsunoda at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo . In 2017 she won the U21 World Championships in Zagreb. At the end of 2017 she won the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo, and at the beginning of 2018 she also won the Grand Slam tournament in Paris. At the 2018 World Championships in Baku , she defeated French Amandine Buchard in the semi-finals and her compatriot Ai Shishime in the final . At the end of 2018, she won the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka. In August 2019 at the World Championships in Tokyo , Uta Abe won the semifinals against Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo, and in the final she defeated the Russian Natalja Kusjutina .

Uta Abe is the sister of Hifumi Abe . At the 2018 World Championships, the two were the first sibling pair to fight for an individual world champion title on the same day.
