Natsumi Tsunoda

Natsumi Tsunoda ( Japanese 角 田 夏 実 Tsunoda Natsumi ; * August 6, 1992 ) is a Japanese judoka . In 2017 she was second in the world championship in the semi-light weight category, up to 52 kilograms.

Athletic career

Natsumi Tsunoda won the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo in 2016 with a final victory over her compatriot Uta Abe . At the beginning of 2017 she reached the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris , but lost to Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo. At the Japanese Championships in 2017, she finished second behind Ai Shishime . At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, she defeated the Brazilian Érika Miranda in the quarter-finals and the Israeli Gili Cohen in the semifinals , and in the final she was defeated by Ai Shishime. In 2018 she won the Japanese championships. In summer 2018 she won the Grand Prix tournament in Budapest. Three weeks later she won the Asian Games 2018 final against South Korean Park Da-sol . At the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka , she lost in the final against Uta Abe. At the end of 2018, Natsumi Tsunoda won the Masters tournament in Guangzhou. At the beginning of 2019 she lost to Ai Shishime in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris. In April she won the Japanese championships. In July 2019 she won the Grand Prix tournament in Zagreb. At the Grand Slam in Brasília , she finished third.

In November 2019, she switched to the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. At the Grand Slam in Osaka, she finished third in her new weight class.
