Érika de Souza Miranda (born June 4, 1987 in Brasilia ) is a Brazilian judoka . She won silver once and bronze four times at individual world championships.

Athletic career

The 1.62 m tall Miranda fights in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms.

She won the bronze medal at the Pan American Championships in 2006. In 2007 she won her first World Cup tournament in Vienna. In the same year she received bronze at the Pan American Championships and after a final defeat against the Cuban Sheila Espinosa silver at the Pan American Games . At the Judo World Championships 2007 she finished fifth after she was defeated in the semifinals of the Portuguese Telma Monteiro and in the battle for bronze of the Japanese Yuka Nishida . In 2008 Miranda won silver at the Pan American Championships.

In 2009 and 2010 Miranda finished fifth at the Pan American Championships. At the Judo World Championships 2010 she was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Mongolian Bundmaa Munkhbaatar . In the hope round she won against Zhang Lichuan from China, but lost to the Russian Natalja Kusjutina in the battle for bronze . In 2011 Miranda won bronze at the Pan American Championships. At the Pan American Games she received silver as in 2007, this time she lost to the Cuban Yanet Bermoy in the final . In 2012 Miranda won the Pan American Championships. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Miranda lost her first fight against South Korean Kim Kyung-ok .

In 2013, Miranda won a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships. At the Judo World Championships in 2013 , she won silver in both the individual decision and in the team competition. In the individual final she was defeated by Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo, team gold went to the Japanese. In 2014 she won the Pan American Championships. At the Judo World Championships in 2014 she lost in the semifinals to the Romanian Andreea Chițu , and she won the battle for bronze against Yanet Bermoy. In 2015 she won the Pan American Championships and the Grandslam tournament in Baku . In the final of the Pan American Games in 2015 , she defeated the Canadian Ecaterina Guica . At the Judo World Championships in 2015 she lost to the Japanese Misato Nakamura in the semifinals , in the battle for bronze she defeated the Italian Odette Giuffrida . In 2016 she won the Pan American Championships for the third time in a row. In front of a home crowd at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro she lost to the Chinese Ma Yingnan in the quarter-finals , in the hope round she defeated the Romanian Andreea Chițu, and lost the battle for bronze to Misato Nakamura.

At the Judo World Championships in 2017, she lost to Japanese Natsumi Tsunoda in the quarter-finals , and Miranda took bronze with two wins in the hope round against Kosovar Distria Krasniqi and Majlinda Kelmendi. In the team competition, the Japanese won the final against the Brazilians. In 2018 she lost to Japanese Ai Shishime in the semifinals of the World Championships , and Miranda beat Jessica Pereira in the all-Brazilian duel for bronze .
