Odette Giuffrida

Odette Giuffrida (born October 12, 1994 in Rome ) is an Italian judoka . She won an Olympic silver medal in 2016.

Athletic career

The 1.60 m tall Odette Giuffrida began her sporting career in the weight class up to 48 kilograms. In 2012 she rose to half-light weight of up to 52 kilograms.

In 2009 Giuffrida won the U17 European Championships and finished second at the U17 World Championships, in 2010 she repeated her success at the U17 European Championships. In 2011 and 2012 Giuffrida won bronze at the U23 European Championships. At the European Judo Championships in Budapest in 2013 Giuffrida reached the semifinals and lost to the Russian Natalja Kusjutina , the Italian lost the battle for bronze to the Spanish Laura Gomez . In the same year Giuffrida won the U21 European Championships and received bronze at the U21 World Championships and the U23 European Championships. In 2014 she won again at the U21 European Championships and won bronze at the U23 European Championships for the fourth time in a row. At the end of 2014 she won the Italian national championships.

The 2015 European Championships were held as part of the European Games in Baku . Giuffrida lost in the quarter-finals to the Romanian Andreea Chițu , the battle for bronze she lost to Natalja Kusjutina. The Italians won the bronze medal in the team competition. Andreea Chițu also won the 2015 World Judo Championships against Giuffrida, in the battle for bronze Giuffrida lost to the Brazilian Érika Miranda . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Odette Giuffrida defeated the German Mareen Kräh in the round of 16 , Andreea Chițu in the quarter-finals and the Chinese Yingnan Ma in the semi-finals . In the final, Kosovar Majlinda Kelmendi won and Giuffrida received the silver medal. Giuffrida finished fifth at the 2017 European Judo Championships .
