Andreea Stefania Chițu (born May 7, 1988 in Bolintin-Vale ) is a Romanian judoka . She was runner-up in 2014 and 2015.

Athletic career

Andreea Chițu was third in the 2004 Cadet European Championships in the weight class up to 52 kilograms, in 2006 she took third place at the U20 European Championships. Then she switched to lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms. In 2008 she won her first Romanian championship title, in 2010 in lightweight and 2013 in half-lightweight, further championship titles followed. In 2008 and 2009 she also won silver at the U23 European Championships, and in 2010 she won the title.

In 2011, the 1.57 m tall Andreea Chițu returned to half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. She won bronze in this weight class at the World Military Games . At the 2011 World Championships in Paris, she lost to the Japanese Yuka Nishida in the semifinals . She won the battle for bronze against the French Priscilla Gneto . In April 2012 the European Championships 2012 took place in Chelyabinsk . Chițu defeated the Spaniard Ana Carrascosa in the semifinals and the Russian Natalja Kusjutina in the final . At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , she defeated the Algerian Soraya Haddad in her opening fight, in the second fight she was eliminated against the Belgian Ilse Heylen .

In 2013 Chițu defeated the German Mareen Kräh in the semi-finals of the 2013 European Championships in Budapest . In the final, like last year, she met Natalja Kusjutina, this time the Russian won. At the 2013 World Championships , she finished fifth after losing in the semifinals against Érika Miranda from Brazil and in the battle for bronze against Mareen Kräh. In April 2014, she lost to the Russian Yulia Ryzhova in the quarterfinals of the European Championships in Montpellier . In the hope round she reached the battle for bronze, which she won against Mareen Kräh. Four months later at the World Championships in Chelyabinsk, she defeated Kräh in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals she defeated Érika Miranda. The final won the Kosovar Majlinda Kelmendi . The 2015 European Championships were held as part of the 2015 European Games in Baku. Andreea Chițu defeated Mareen Kräh in the semifinals and the French Annabelle Euranie in the final . Two months later at the 2015 World Championships in Astana, the Romanian defeated the Turkmen Gulbadam Babamuratowa in the semifinals . In the final she was defeated by the Japanese Misato Nakamura . At the 2016 European Championships in Kazan, Chițu lost to French Priscilla Gneto in the semi-finals. She won the battle for bronze against Evelyne Tschopp from Switzerland. In August 2016, Andreea Chițu won the last sixteen of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro against the Spanish Laura Gómez . After defeats against the Italian Odette Giuffrida in the quarter-finals and Èrika Miranda in the hope round, Chițu finished seventh.
