Ana Carrascosa

Ana Carrascosa Zaragoza (born May 6, 1980 in Valencia ) is a former Spanish judoka . She won two bronze medals at world championships and was European champion in 2008.

Athletic career

The 1.58 m tall Ana Carrascosa fought at half light weight. In 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2007 she was Spanish champion. She won a bronze medal in both the Junior World Championships and the Junior European Championships in 1998. In 1999 a bronze medal followed at the U20 European Championships.

In 2001 she finished seventh at the European Championships in Paris after losing to Romanian Ioana Maria Aluaș in the quarterfinals . The following year she won at the European Championships in Maribor in the quarter-finals against the Romanian Alina Alexandra Dumitru and in the semifinals against the Slovenian Petra Nareks , Carrascosa lost the final against the British Georgina Singleton . At the European Championships in 2003 in Düsseldorf, she was eliminated after a quarter-final defeat against the French Annabelle Euranie in the first fight of the round of hope. At the 2003 World Championships in Osaka, Carrascosa lost to Annabelle Euranie in the round of 16. After two wins in the Hope Round, she lost to the German Raffaella Imbriani and finished in seventh place. In May 2004 she lost at the European Championships in the first fight against Petra Nareks. In 2005 Carrascosa did not take part in any international championships. At the European Championships in 2006 and 2007 , she was eliminated early on against Belarusian Marina Zharskaya .

In 2008 at the European Championships in Lisbon, she defeated the Belgian Ilse Heylen in the quarter -finals, the Romanian Ioana Maria Aluaș in the semifinals and the German Romy Tarangul in the final . So Ana Carrascosa went to the Olympic Games in Beijing as the reigning European champion . There she defeated the Mongolian Mönchbaataryn Bundmaa in her first fight and lost to the Chinese Xian Dongmei in the round of 16 . After a win against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro and a defeat against the South Korean Kim Kyung-ok in the hope round, the Spaniard finished in seventh place. At the European Championships in Tbilisi in 2009 she defeated Petra Nareks in the semifinals, and in the final she was defeated by the Russian Natalja Kusjutina . In early July 2009 she won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara. The 2009 World Championships took place in Rotterdam at the end of August . Carrascosa lost in the quarterfinals to the Germans Romy Tarangul. With victories over the Mongolian Mönchbaataryn Bundmaa and the North Korean Jo Song-hui , she secured a bronze medal. At the beginning of 2010, Ana Carrascosa lost to the Japanese Misato Nakamura at the Grand Slam tournament in Paris . At the European Championships , she retired early against the Italian Rosalba Forciniti . Four and a half months later she was defeated at the 2010 World Championships in her second fight against the Mongolian Mönchbaataryn Bundmaa. The following year, she lost to the British Sophie Cox in the quarterfinals of the 2011 European Championships in Istanbul , and Carrascosa won a bronze medal with victories against Ilse Heylen and Romy Tarangul. Four months later she reached the semifinals at the World Championships in Paris with victories over Ilse Heylen and the French Priscilla Gneto . After her loss to Misato Nakamura, she won the battle for bronze against the Portuguese Joana Ramos . In 2012, Carrascosa finished fifth at the European Championships in Chelyabinsk. The 2012 Olympic Games in London were the last major tournament for Ana Carrascosa, she was eliminated in her opening match after 4:02 minutes against Marie Muller from Luxembourg.
