Petra Nareks

Petra Nareks (born September 27, 1982 in Žalec ) is a Slovenian judoka . She won six medals at European championships.

Athletic career

The 1.63 m tall Petra Nareks fights in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. In this weight class, she won a total of 15 Slovenian championship titles from 1999 to 2009, 2011 and 2012 as well as 2014 and 2015. In 2016, she won the lightweight, the weight class up to 57 kilograms.

In 1998 she won a bronze medal at the World Youth Games in Moscow and was third in the European Junior Championships. In 1999 she finished fifth at the U20 European Championships, in 2000 and 2001 she received a bronze medal. In 2001 she also won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games . At the European Championships in Maribor in 2002, she lost to the Spanish Ana Carrascosa in the semifinals , and won the battle for bronze against the Italian Laura Maddaloni . The following year she reached the final at the 2003 European Championships in Düsseldorf by defeating the British Georgina Singleton , where she was defeated by the French Annabelle Euranie . In the 2004 Olympic year she lost in the quarter-finals of the European Championships in Bucharest to the Romanian Ioana Aluaş , with three wins in the round of hope Nareks won a bronze medal. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she was eliminated in the first round against the Algerian Salima Souakri .

At the European Championships 2005 in Rotterdam, Petra Nareks lost to Ioana Aluaș in the semi-finals, and in the battle for bronze she defeated the Finn Jaana Sundberg . A month later she won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Almeria. In 2006 she defeated Jaana Sundberg in the quarterfinals of the European Championships in Tampere. After losing in the semifinals against the Portuguese Telma Monteiro and in the battle for bronze against the Belgian Ilse Heylen , she finished fifth. She was also defeated by Telma Monteiro in the semi-finals at the 2007 European Championships in Belgrade, this time winning the battle for bronze against Aynur Samat from Turkey. The 2008 European Championships took place in Lisbon. Nareks lost in the round of 16 against Ioana Aluaș, but fought his way to the bronze medal through the hope round.

In 2009 she finished fifth at the European Championships in Tbilisi. At the Mediterranean Games in Pescara, she won a bronze medal for the third time in a row. In 2011 Nareks won the title at the European Police Championships, followed by victory at the World Police Championships in 2012. In 2013 she reached the final of the Mediterranean Games in Mersin and then lost to the Spanish Laura Gómez . In 2015 she won bronze with the Slovenian team at the European Championships held in Baku as part of the European Games .
