European Judo Championships 2002

The European Judo Championships in 2002 took place in Maribor from May 16-18 . It was the only European Judo Championships in Slovenia to date. The judoka from the host country won two bronze medals.

Celine Lebrun won her fourth consecutive light heavyweight title. Katja Gerber also won her fourth title in a row , but in two weight classes. Tamerlan Tmenow in the heavyweight division and Frédérique Jossinet in the super-lightweight division won their second title in a row and Sandra Köppen won the heavyweight division after her victory in the open class last year.
