Jozef Krnáč

Jozef Krnáč (born December 30, 1977 in Bratislava ) is a former Slovak judoka .

Athletic career

The 1.74 m tall Jozef Krnáč usually competed in half-light weight, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. In 1995 he finished third at the Junior European Championships. In 1996 he was junior world champion and won silver at the junior European championships. In 1997 he also won the title of European Junior Champion. In 1998 he won a bronze medal at the student world championships, followed by bronze at the Universiade in 1999. In 2000 he won the title at the Student World Championships in Malaga.

2001 Jozef Krnáč reached the semi-finals at the European Championships, after his defeat against Renat Mirzaliyev from Azerbaijan he won the battle for bronze against the Latvian Denis Kozlovs . At the 2001 World Championships , he finished seventh. In 2002 he was defeated at the European Championships in Maribor only in the final against the Hungarian Miklós Ungvári . At the end of 2002, Krnáč won bronze at the student world championships. In 2003 he won bronze again at the Universiade. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he reached the final with four wins. After his loss to the Japanese Masato Uchishiba , he received the silver medal. Jozef Krnáč continued his career until 2009 and was also successful in World Cup tournaments, but he did not achieve any top placements in international championships.

Jozef Krnáč won a total of eight national championship titles in Slovakia.
