This list includes fortresses and castles B, b , residential towers T, t , residences A, a , ruins R, r and castle stable and no longer existing buildings X, x in Upper Austria in Austria for places. Some fortresses F , Palais P and villas V, v , which were noble seats , are also included. As far as is known, the noble families who had their headquarters in the buildings are also included in the list.

In the listed objects is the building type ( type ) with capital letters , with not listed properties with lower case letters written.

The list was drawn up on the basis of the Upper Austrian List of Historic Monuments.

Castles and palaces in Upper Austria were increasingly damaged or destroyed in the following events: Schaunberger Feud (1380-1390), Turkish Wars 1526 1683, Thirty Years War and before, Second Upper Austrian Peasant Uprising (1594-1597), Upper Austrian Peasant War 1626, Bavarian Diversion in the War of the Spanish Succession ( 1700–1714), coalition wars as a result of the French Revolution, such as the Third Coalition War 1805 and the Fifth Coalition War 1809, World War II, end of war and Soviet occupation.
