history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times and has since returned to Upper Austria.
On March 1, 1875, the six neighboring communities Bergheim, Freudenstein, Lacken, Landshaag, Mühldorf and Bad Mühllacken were incorporated.
Population development
In 2013 there were 5,203 people in the community, making Feldkirchen the third most populous community in the district. At the end of 2001, 96.1 percent of the population were Austrian citizens (Upper Austria 92.8 percent, Urfahr-Umgebung district 97.9 percent), by the beginning of 2013 the value had fallen slightly to 95.7 percent (Upper Austria 91.1 percent, Rohrbach district 96.9 percent). A total of 140 foreigners were counted in the community in 2013, 96 percent of whom came from Europe. 47 percent of the foreigners were EU citizens, 43 percent citizens of the former Yugoslavia (excluding Slovenia). A total of 253 people with a foreign country of birth lived in Feldkirchen in 2013. In 2001, 90.8 percent of the population committed to the Roman Catholic Church (Upper Austria: 88.6 percent), 4.6 percent were without confession, 1.7 percent were of the Islamic faith and 1.4 percent were Protestant.
The average age of the community population in 2001 deviated only slightly from the national average. 19.4 percent of the residents of Feldkirchen were younger than 15 years (Upper Austria: 18.8 percent), 60.9 percent between 15 and 59 years old (Upper Austria: 61.6 percent). The proportion of residents over 59 years of age was 19.7 percent, below the national average of 20.2 percent. The average age of the population of Feldkirchen changed as a result, especially in the first two segments. The proportion of people under the age of 15 fell sharply to 14.5 percent as of January 1, 2013, while the proportion of people between 15 and 59 years of age increased significantly to 67.7 percent. The proportion of people over 59 years of age fell slightly to 17.9 percent. The population of the municipality of Feldkirchen rose by 168 percent between 1869 and 2013, which means that the population development was slightly below the development in the federal state of Upper Austria and in the Urfahr-Umgebung district. Up to the beginning of the 1970s, the population development was almost the same as that in the Urfahr-Umgebung district and was only just below this, after which the district recorded far higher increases than the municipality. The population of Feldkirchen fluctuated between 1869 and 1961 between around 2,900 and 3,150 inhabitants, only then did the population grow continuously, with the strongest increase being recorded in the 1960s. In the 1970s, Feldkirchen grew at roughly the same rate due to the birth surplus and immigration; in the 1980s, the influx tripled while the birth surplus remained the same. In the 1990s, on the other hand, the birth surplus fell, while immigration continued to increase. Feldkirchen has had a negative birth balance since 2002 , while immigration has fallen sharply. As a result, population growth also slowed significantly. In 2015, 78 refugees moved into the former agricultural vocational and technical college in Bergheim. The refugees were received positively by local associations such as FF Feldkirchen and there are first contacts between locals and people from Syria, Iraq and other countries.

coat of arms
The municipal coat of arms was set by the municipal council on March 21, 1975, as were the municipal colors (red-yellow-blue). The award of the municipal coat of arms and the approval of the municipal colors determined by the municipal council finally took place by resolution of the Upper Austrian provincial government on July 14, 1975. The blazon of the coat of arms reads: Between blue, wavy flanks in gold, a red, two-storey tower with a black saddle roof, crowned with two black balls and flags; a black, rectangular door opening on the lower floor, a black, square window opening on the upper floor, underneath a black clock disk and a black, rectangular window opening. The coat of arms goes back to a design by Herbert Erich Baumert from Linz, whereby the tower in the coat of arms refers to the distinctive, free-standing, Gothic west tower of the parish church as well as to the place name "Church on the field". The wave flanks represent the Danube and the Pesenbach .
