coat of arms

Blazon : In gold over a green three-mountain, in it a silver wavy bar, a black horseshoe with ten nail holes, raised by two red, floating, unequal paw crosses in the upper corners. The community colors are black-yellow-red.

The three green hills, the Dreiberg, symbolize the beautiful landscape, the well-tended meadows and the extensive forests. The silver wavy band stands for the large Rodl that runs through the community. The two red crosses symbolize the two churches in Eidenberg and Untergeng. The horseshoe refers to the rural customs of the Leonhardiritte, which has been carried out in Eidenberg since 1956 - Saint Leonhard is the patron saint of the Eidenberg church. The ten nail holes mean the ten localities of the municipality (Aschlberg, Berndorf, Edt, Eidenberg, Felsleiten, Kammerschlag, Obergeng, Schiefegg, Staubgasse, Untergeng).

The coat of arms in its current form and the municipal colors black, yellow and red were decided in the municipal council on March 25, 1981 and approved by the Upper Austrian provincial government on May 11, 1981.

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place has belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century and to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns since 1490 .

The first documentary mentions of the place come from the years 1206 ("ibenberge"), 1209 ("ibenberc") and 1215 ("Ulricus de Ibenperge"), whereby the basic word Berg is either the Old High German personal name Iwo or the Middle High German word iwe (yew) was added, which would then designate the mountain where the yew trees grow.

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times and has since returned to Upper Austria.

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, Upper Austria became the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
